DAILY

JOURNAL

24 January 2019 - The first day on the lab, my group and I focus on making the base/layers of the terrarium. The first we step we did is putting and washing the materials specifically the activated carbon and gravel. One of the problems we experience on the first day is one of the members of our group is absent, he's responsible of bringing gravel and pebbles as the base but because he was absent our group had to take the gravel from other groups. Despite the problem we successfully made a very thin layer of activated carbon and gravel.

DAY 2

31 January 2019 - Our group brought driftwood and rocks to mimic more the environment of the freshwater ecosystem. We realized that our terrarium has already experienced a water cycle, evaporation can be seen on the glass. Our group added some more pebbles and rocks we were thinking to put the moss that we brought in the terrarium but the tank is still empty (no water) and there is no way the moss would survive. Our group decided to put the moss separately in a bucket filled with water for the time being. Our group had a problem with the driftwood, it seems that with no water in the tank and left in the dry some mold started to appear, but as soon as we washed the driftwood with some the mold disappear.

DAY 4

DAY 1

25 January 2019- Second day of the making, we still focus on forming the base layer of the terrarium. Our group finally have our own gravel and pebbles so today we decide to put t the rocks creating a thicker layer. My group decided to add a few chunks of charcoal in the layer to make sure the effectivity of the carbon, we also decide to place the driftwood in the tank and a few numbers of pebbles.

DAY 3

4 February 2019 - Today our group was not as productive as other days. We replaced the water in the bucket for the mold, and we realized that the mold actually started to grow. We made a little adjustment in the landscape of the terrarium, taking out a few rocks. We also "moisturize" the tank by spraying water in them this is to avoid any mold that may appear in the driftwood.
